A Camping Clothes Checklist To Make Sure You Pack Comfortable Clothing

Your choice in camping clothes can make or break your camping experience. Choose the wrong clothes and your experience will be miserable!

Just like choosing your clothing for the weather in your day to day life, your choices in your camping clothes will directly affect how well you will weather the elements. It is vital to stay warm when the weather is cold, dry during wet weather, and stay cool during the hot seasons while protecting yourself from sunburn as well.

In many areas of the world, even though it may be hot during the day, it will cool down at night so a light jacket may be necessary any time of the year. Even in Florida, where it is very hot and humid, I like to pack a jacket just in case. On a recent tropical beach campout in June, due to our location right on the ocean it was very windy....I was glad to have my light jacket to give me some protection from the winds when I was standing right next to the ocean.

While shorts and short-sleeved shirts are the first items most people think of when the weather is warm, the sun and mosquitos can be brutal in areas. In the heat of the sun a long-sleeved shirt offers great protection from sunburn...and when evening descends, changing into a pair of long pants can keep the mosquitos at bay.

This clothing camping check list is based on a weekend campout in moderate to warm weather conditions. For longer campouts, most campgrounds will have laundry facilities if you need to wash your clothes. Winter camping has its own unique considerations and will be addressed elsewhere.

I also like to bring one nicer outfit, in case we decide to go out to dinner and sample some of the local restaurants or other events. Finally, for the laundry bag, I like to bring one of those HUGE Ziplock bags to contain all of our dirty laundry and to make it easy to carry to the laundry room when we need to do wash on longer campouts.
