The Coleman Sundome Tent
One Of The Favorite Coleman Dome Tents

The Coleman Sundome tent is a mainstay in the Coleman dome tent family. It comes in a variety of sizes to sleep different sized families...from couples to families with children as well.

Priced from $50 to $200 depending on the size, this is perfect starter tent, for someone who is just beginning to acquire equipment and is not yet sure that camping is something they will love (although if you ask me...what's not to love about such a great activity!!!)

After a few years of use, if you decide to upgrade to a different type of tent, this tent is great to pass on to your older children or teens who are moving out of the family tent and looking to sleep in a tent of their own.

Shared Features of the Coleman Sundome Tent Line

The Sundome tent comes in several different models, all with similar basic features except for the size of the tent. These include:

  • It has a mesh vent for increased ventilation.
  • It has a rainfly, which covers the door and the windows.
  • The poles are shock-corded for easier setup
  • A new feature in Coleman tents is the Cool-Air™ port, a small opening at the bottom of the tent with which you can access your gear or adjust the ventilation.
  • Heavy-duty welcome mat, privacy windows, pole sleeves, pin and ring, and insta clip hooks.
  • Coleman now sews the instructions right into the tent carry bag so you won't lose them.
  • It comes with separate storage bags for the tent, poles, and stakes.

Coleman's Weathertec System

Plus all Sundome Tents include Coleman's exclusive Weathertec system which is GUARANTEED by Coleman to keep you dry. These features include:
  • A waterproof, tub-style floor.
  • Strong, weather-resistant fabric.
  • Inverted seams to prevent leaking through the seams.
  • Zipper cuffs, which cover and protect the zippers from leaks.
  • A strong frame design to help withstand winds.

How Many People Fit In That Tent?????

Keep in mind that for true comfort, you should "halve" the amount of people the tent says it sleeps. For example, if the tent manufacturer says it is a 6-person tent, in reality it is probably a 3 person tent, or maybe 4 person tent....especially if you want to fit any of your gear in the tent with you.

Likewise, 2 person camping tents will really comfortably sleep one person. Take a look at the picture...when the manufacturer says a 2 person tent, they mean exactly 2 people, lying side by side with no room to spare.

Sundome 7' x 5' Tent

The smallest Sundome tent is the 7 foot by 5 foot tent. According to Coleman it is a 2 person tent, but with an air mattress and gear, it is ideal for a solo camper.

  • The interior is one room and is 7 x 5 feet.

The next size up is the 7 foot by 7 foot tent. A little larger, but still a nice portable tent family tent. According to Coleman it is a 3 person tent, but with an air mattress and gear, it is ideal for a solo camper who prefers a little space, a single parent with one or two small children, or a couple.

Moving on up in size we come to the 9 foot by 7 foot tent. A comfortably-sized camping dome tent for a couple or a small family, this tent will easily sleep 2-3 people, although according to Coleman it is a 3-4 person tent.

With a 59-inch center height (just short of 5 feet) this tent gives a little more head room to comfortably sit up, move around, and get dressed, although for most it is not quite tall enough to stand fully upright in.
